The Signal Maintainer is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of railroad signaling systems and related equipment. This includes ensuring the functionality of signal systems, communication systems, and other related infrastructure to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the railroad network. The role requires working outdoors, handling technical systems and responding quickly to failures or malfunctions.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting and maintennce on signal equipment, signal control systems, track circuits, and interlocking systems.
Repair or replace faulty components, such as signal lights, switches, and communciation devices.
Test and calibrate signal systems to ensure proper operation and safety compliance.
Install new signal systems, equipment, and components in compliance with regulatory standards and specifications.
Assist in the setup and configuration of new signal systems, including hardware and software components.
Follow all safety protocols, regulations and industry standards while working on rail signal equipment.
Ensure all signal systems comply with federal, state and local regulations, including those outlined by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
Adhere to safe working practices while operating tools, machinery, and working in potentially hazardous environment.
Monitor the functionality of signal systems and report any malfunctions or failures.
Respond quickly to emergencies, incidents, or failures, diagnosing issues and implementing solutions as needed.
Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot signal malfunctions and ensure system reliability.
Maintain accurate records of signal inspections, maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
Complete daily reports on tasks performed, including any issues identified and actions taken.
Maintain inventory of parts, tools and equipment, ensuring that necessary resources are available for upcoming tasks.
Communicate effectively with train dispatchers and operations staff to ensure proper coordination of maintenance and signal related issues.
Be available for emergency callouts and support to address any signal-related issues, malfunctions, or outages that may disrupt normal train operations.
Required Skills/Abilities
Two plus years of related work experience in track mainentance (MoW)/Railroad Engineering, CWR Training
Technical certification in electronics, electrical engineering or a related field.
Previous experience in railroad signal maintenance or similar technical fields.
In depth knowledge of signaling systems, electrical circuits, and safety protocols related to railroad operations.

The MoW Technician will assist in general track and maintenance of way activiites including installation, maintenance, inspection and replacement of ties, rail, switches, ballast and culverts and other drainage structures.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Monitor processes, materials or surroundings - monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
Cut rails to specified lengths using rail saws.
Remove and replace ties and rails; pull and drive spikes; shovel rock ballast; load and unload equipment and material.
Repair or adjust track switches, using wrenches and replacement parts.
Grind ends of new or worn rails to attain smooth joints, using portable grinders.
Glean tracks or clear ice or snow from tracks or switch boxes.
Clean, grade or level ballast on railroad tracks.
Clean or make minor repairs to machines or equipment.
Drill holes through rails, tie plates, or fishplates for insertion of bolts or spikes, using power drills.
Raise rails, using manual/hydraulic jacks to allow for tie removal and replacement.
Complete written forms and reports, including FRA reports as required.

CDL and experience operating equipment is a plus.

The conductors are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of freight trains. A conductor’s job includes operating track switches, couples and uncouples cars and performs other duties associated with the movement of trains, cars and engines in rail yards and on the main railroad. The conductor also receives, relays, or acts upon oral, written, or radio instructions from the dispatcher, yardmaster, or other personnel indicating switch movement, placement or delivery of railroad cars and/or train.
